1 Discovery Drive, Cambridge

The BREEAM Excellent building at Cambridge Biomedical Campus provides 103,000 sq ft of laboratory and office space over 5 storeys and is designed to accommodate up to 17 occupiers. 1000 Discovery Drive accommodates industry start-ups, university spin-outs and healthcare entrepreneurs in high quality space, grounded in a public realm that flows right to the front door. This, combined with the building’s public café and shared work areas creates the vibrant buzz associated with research collaboration and moments of serendipity.

Buro Four also led the delivery of the neighbouring 100,000 sq ft Abcam building as part of the continued Cambridge Biomedical Campus expansion.

We understood that tenants may come on board at any point in the project and may require specific adaptions to their space. We integrated an element of flexibility and future-proofing into the processes and documentation to facilitate a smooth incorporation of tenant fit-out or essential change as it occurred. We liaised with incoming tenants to understand their requirements and communicate any restrictions.
