The Project

Arriving in Britain in 1865 with only £5 to his name, Daniel Thevenon was able to set up the lavish Café Royal. The building has hosted countless famous patrons over the years, such as Oscar Wilde, Muhammad Ali and Princess Diana. The infamous café was to be converted into a luxury hotel, complete with spa facilities, restaurants and retail space.

The project involved the part-demolition, part-new-build of a Grade-II listed building. This created a new 160-room five-star hotel on London’s famous Regent Street. Historic sections of the building and façades were retained, in addition to the restoration of rooms. All the works took place within a constrained site and to a tight programme.

Buro Four successfully delivered the project and the building still stands the test of time as one of London’s truly illustrious buildings. We helped to deliver the extraordinary project, working closely alongside world-renowned architect, Sir David Chipperfield.
