160 Aldersgate has been shortlisted for the Best Refurbished/Recycled Workspace at the 2019 BCO Awards in London.

160 Aldersgate involved the extensive refurbishment of a 1980’s office building to provide over 200,000 sq. ft. of high quality office space for the city district.

The refurbishment, designed by Fletcher Priest, has given the building a new lease of life. This was achieved through replacing the aging façade and dramatically redesigning the atrium to increase natural lighting.

The floor space has been reworked on the ground and basement levels to use space more efficiently, freeing up space for a terrace. There has also been an additional storey instated, increasing GIA by 7%.

160 Aldersgate is located in a heavily congested area with high levels of pedestrians and traffic. It is also above a 7 storey operational car park. These factors created challenges for the project however it was a success and a project that Buro Four were proud to be a part of. The building was completed and it achieved a BREEAM rating of excellent.

Buro Four provided full project management, employer’s agent and tenant liaison services for the project. The project team consisted of:

Architect: Fletcher Priest

Quantity Surveyor: Linesight

Structural and Services Engineer: Waterman Group

Contractor: McClaren Group
