Abcam Laboratory and Office, Cambridge

Buro Four managed the development of the new build office and laboratory building as well as the fit-out for occupier Abcam at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus (CBC).

The CBC is a Healthcare and Biomedical Research Centre of international status, located to the SE of Cambridge adjacent to Addenbrookes Hospital. Abcam required an office and laboratory building (100,000sqft NIA).

The majority of activities within the lab space fall under Biosafety Level 1 with the maximum level of containment needed being Biosafety Level 2. Lab activities cover cryogenics (storage of cells in liquid nitrogen), cell culture (most onerous requirements for prevention of contamination & at bsl-2), product purification, product conjugation and characterisation (including microscopy).
