Project description

Leadership for the expansion and renewal of the iconic Band on the Wall venue in Manchester, where Joy Division and Buzzcocks started out.

Works saw capacity increase from 340 to 520 and included creating a range of new educational, studio and rehearsal spaces as well as bringing the derelict Cocozza building to the rear of the venue back into use.

This redevelopment provides significant improvements to facilities throughout the building keeping its focus on creative development, enabling the venue to introduce a variety of new events such as more intimate live music performances. After receiving funding from both the Arts Council and the National Heritage Lottery Fund, Inner city Music provides a home to nurture emerging local and international artists while helping cultivate learning within the community.

"The Band on the Wall ‘Keep on Moving Project’ is fundamental to ensure we can continue provide the resources and amenities to support our diverse community whilst maintaining our position at the forefront of the Manchester music scene. Buro Four have been with us every step of the way, helping us achieve and manage funding, managing complex stakeholder relationships and leading team collaboration to maximise the potential of our scheme. Buro Four have helped us to Keep on Moving!”
