The Manchester Jewish Museum has received the RIBA North West Award 2023.

Buro Four acted as Project Manager for the National Heritage Lottery Funded redevelopment of the Grade II* listed oldest Synagogue in Manchester, alongside a newbuild extension to house enhanced facilities and improve the museum’s reach.

The new Manchester Jewish Museum is double the size of the previous building and provides a new gallery, café, shop, kitchen and learning studio. The Museum particularly wanted to increase engagement with schools as well as a more diverse audience, the new facilities enable the achievement of these aims as well as a continued ability to deliver their vision.

Stakeholder engagement was key to successful delivery including continued liaison with neighbours and regular engagement with the Board of Trustees. We ensured coordination between the gallery shell and exhibition fit-out design and managed the interface between the fit-out contractor and the principal contractor to allow the fit-out to run in parallel with the main works.
