Buro Four | Data, the specialist data centre project management unit of Buro Four, is incredibly proud to be working with Kao Data to support their technical and operational expansion in Slough, West London.

Buro Four | Data has been appointed as Project Manager for the 11.75MW expansion of Kao Data’s recently acquired, carrier-neutral data centre in Slough.

The new facility significantly expands Kao Data’s platform, supporting immediate growth for hyperscale, cloud and enterprise organisations within west London and the M4 corridor. The highly secure, data centre will adhere to Kao Data’s pioneering design and sustainability principles, providing an energy efficient home for high-performance colocation.

This acquisition marks a new beginning for Kao Data following the recent investment of approximately £130 million from global infrastructure business Infratil Limited and will expand its market-leading, ultra-sustainable data centre platform into this globally significant data centre hub.

The design and procurement activities are now underway and Buro Four | Data is working alongside Kao Data’s internal Design and Construction team and the selected consultants to deliver this fast-paced project.

The project will adhere to the high-performance design, efficiency, and operational blueprint of Kao Data’s Harlow campus, providing customers with an SLA-backed PUE of <1.2, even at partial loads. From a sustainability standpoint, the new facility will use an ultra-efficient cooling system, be powered by 100% renewable energy, with its backup power generators powered by hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) from the outset, removing fossil fuels in their entirety.

Martin Smith, Delivery Director at Buro Four | Data said, “The data centre sector is incredibly fast-paced with data centre developers and operators having to continually adapt and evolve to respond to changes in demand. It is a privilege to work with such a forward thinking and innovative company.”

“The launch of our new high performance data centre in Slough enables us to establish a strong and sustainable footprint in the West London Availability Zone,” said Paul Finch, COO, Kao Data.

“We’re delighted to be working with Buro Four | Data to scale our OCP-Ready™ and NVIDIA DGX-Ready platform into the world’s second largest data centre hub, and to support cloud, enterprise, HPC and AI customers in the region with industrial-scale infrastructure.”
